After purchasing my new iPod touch, I was disconcerted to find out from the Apple rep that they did not have one case for it in the store. I am someone who does not want to scratch up my iPod considering how much these things are, so I began researching cases online.
There are many types of cases becoming available. I found out most hard shell cases are also hard on the inside. They seem fine until you remove the ipod and find scratches all over it. What good is that? Silicone cases may not scratch the iPod but don't provide as much protection. I also had a silicone case before that left residue all over the chrome back of the iPod...not after a few weeks but months, so I didn't find out until much later.
In contrast, the Speck Candyshell is superb. The thing I like about this case is that it has protection both on the outside AND the inside.
The outer shell protects the iPod from dings, while the soft rubber interior protects the back of the iPod. The case also covers the buttons so those don't get dirty either. The only exposed parts are the bottom (where iPod docks and the earphones connect) and the screen.
To protect the screen, I could not bring myself to wet the ipod using the most popular film protector (I don't know if I'm allowed to say the brand) so I stayed away from that one and just used another which does not leave any residue.
My iPod is now protected on the front, sides and back and looks really fabulous! I highly recommend this product. It may be a few more dollars but when you see how shiny it keeps your iPod/iPhone, you will be glad you made the investment.
